This marvellous Grade 1 listed building dates from 1656 and was the residence of the Lords of the Manor of Sandbach. It is a near perfect example of genuine Elizabethan architecture, built from original wattle and daub, and was probably one of the last genuine black and white buildings to be completed in England.
In recent years is has fallen into disrepair, and its state of dilapidation became such that it was placed on English Heritage’s “At Risk’ register as priority A, the highest rating. It is held in much affection by locals, who formed a pressure group, Save the Old Hall Action Group (SOHAG) to bring pressure to bear to try to save the building.
In the past it has traded as a hotel, and we believe it will become a simply stunning pub, subject to the necessary permissions. As ever, we will do whatever necessary to preserve the character and atmosphere of the building, so hopefully it will take its place alongside the Pant Yr Ochain, the Corn Mill and Sutton Hall as an architectural gem bought back from the brink.
